Why does life feel so different for everyone?
Look around…
One person is battling an illness that has no cure.
Another is silently drowning in addiction.
Someone is counting coins to make it through the month.
A couple is making du’a for a child… while somewhere else, someone is trying to avoid one.
One heart is begging to be loved… another is trying to find the strength to walk away.
And in all of this, a quiet thought whispers:
“Why me?”
The Truth We Don’t Always Say Out Loud
No one has it all together.
Not the person smiling on social media.
Not the one who seems financially secure.
Not even the one who appears deeply religious.
Every single person is carrying something.
In Islamic psychology, we don’t view struggles as random misfortunes. We view them as deeply meaningful—yet often misunderstood—experiences that are tailored specifically for your soul.
But here’s where it gets uncomfortable…
If every test is different, then comparison becomes dangerous.
Because the moment you say,
“At least I don’t have that problem…”
or
“My problem isn’t as big…”
You disconnect from your own growth.
What If Your Problem Is Not the Problem?
What if…
- Your anxiety is not just anxiety
- Your heartbreak is not just heartbreak
- Your financial struggle is not just about money
What if it’s pointing to something deeper?
In Islamic psychology, a “test” is not simply about hardship.
It’s about:
- What it reveals in you
- What it pulls you toward
- What it forces you to confront
Sometimes, the real test isn’t the situation…
It’s who you become inside of it.
The Hidden Layer Most People Miss
We often ask:
- “When will this end?”
- “Why is this happening to me?”
- “What did I do to deserve this?”
But we rarely ask:
“What is this trying to show me about myself… and my relationship with Allah?”
Not every answer comes immediately.
Not every struggle makes sense right away.
And perhaps…
It’s not meant to.
